i recently found this little slice of heaven and wanted to share it. if you love chocolate, bread, and/or breakfast – you NEED to try this casserole. it’s, to put it simply, YUM. it almost reminds me of a french toast-type casserole!
*before i give you the ‘how-to’, i wanted to let you know that i LOVE aldi and rarely buy name brand anything. so any ingredients that i use to make this more than likely came from aldi.*
>ingredients<
6-8 large croissants (you can buy the already made ones or freshly bake your own)
6-8 large croissants (you can buy the already made ones or freshly bake your own)
nutella
8 eggs
1 cup half + half
¼ tsp cinnamon
>instructions<
1| preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2| butter a 9×13 baking dish and set aside. (if you are making your own croissants and they are a little smaller than the pre-made ones, consider using a smaller baking dish)
3| cut each croissant almost all the way through lengthwise (like you would do for a sandwich) and open.
4| spread nutella on the inside of each croissant and fold over the top. load that sucker up!
5| cut the croissant into small chunks; maybe like 6 to 8 pieces per croissant.
6| place cut pieces into the baking dish and press down gently with a spoon (this will help them soak up the egg and half + half mixture.
7| in a large bowl whisk together eggs, half + half, and cinnamon until well blended. (if your croissants are smaller, use LESS egg. you don’t want to overwhelm the dish with egg.
8| slowly pour over croissants chunks.
9| press down gently again to help get that mixture into the bread. this will help it to cook evenly too.
10| cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
11| uncover and bake another 15 minutes to let the top get a little crispy.
12| serve warm with maple syrup + a vanilla latte 😉
