Ahhh…summertime. It’s finally here! With the change in the season, comes a change in your wardrobe. Is anyone else overly excited to clear out the thick sweaters and long layers??? Guilty over here!
After having Rett – and now with the season change – I found some really great items that I totally forgot I had! With that being said, there are still some essentials that I will definitely be living in this summer. I’m all about easy and versatile. I narrowed down my summer style essentials to eight items. These babies will allow you to keep it simple (a motto that I love). Let me explain:
ONE>a great pair of simple earrings. The earrings from Sabine that I’ve shown above are edgy, yet classy. They are classy, but cool. Pairing them with a cute dress for a summer wedding can be just as easy as throwing your hair up and wearing them with a maxi and a scarf!
TWO>a cute clutch – what? Yes, you saw right. A cute clutch shouldn’t be limited to girls’ night out or a special event – Nope! A clutch is great for everyday in the summer. No lugging a large tote around…just throw in your essentials and you’re good to go! Not to mention, a clutch is great for the pool or beach. You can take it with you by itself or throw it in your beach bag. A clutch also makes transitioning your look (day to evening) super easy.
THREE>I think you all know how I feel about maxi skirts. I love them! This particular one from H&M is a brilliant color. I’m really into the earthy, natural tones right now. A nice soft, neutrally color is great because you can brighten it up with a light tee or tank or tone it down with a grey or black top. Maxis are very versatile. You can do a belted look with a cute blouse for work or a special event – or you can throw on a boyfriend tee and tie at the waist for a laidback look. They are comfy and airy – perfect for hot and humid weather.
FOUR>I’m a romper fan! I love them because it’s one piece – accessorize and go! Dress them up with some wedges, dress them down with some sandals and a hat, wear it to the pool or beach over your suit. So many uses! Great piece to have in your summer wardrobe.
FIVE>Scarves are such an easy piece to throw on and pull a look together. I tend to go for florals or bright colors for the summer. You can wear it with a tee or tank, dresses, vests, maxis, etc. They are simple and a great go-to for summer. Stay away from thicker cottons or cashmere blends. You want to stick with light cottons or acrylics.
SIX>While heels are great – I’ve really decided comfort is more important. Which is why I love the slight wedged sandal. It gives a little ‘oomph’ but is comfy enough to wear all day. They are great paired with jeans, shorts, dresses, rompers… I like to have a nice neutral color in my closet to keep it simple (is there an echo in here?) when it comes to choices. A taupe-y tan, creamy off-white, or even a nice grey are good colors.
SEVEN>Sunglasses – duh. I’m sure you are rolling your eyes. Don’t worry, I know you probably have several pairs already. I’m just reminding you that they are a great summer essential. I’m partial to wayfarers. I sort of love them, actually. They are super flattering on so many face shapes, kind of retro, and they don’t pull my hair out when I put them on top of my head. Like I said, a fan. I don’t usually like to spend a lot on sunglasses, but sometimes the splurge is worth it. TJ Maxx or Marshalls usually have great brands to choose from at a lower price.
EIGHT>A simple necklace. I am in love with the personalized necklaces right now. They are cute and so sweet. While I do love a statement necklace from time to time, a simple dainty necklace is a great option for the hot and humid weather. Layering a couple of them is a cute look, especially with an open neckline.
There you have it – my summer style essentials. I know that summer is filled with busy schedules, so I hope this helps simplify your season’s wardrobe!
